LAHORE: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that India should prosecute Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed internationally if it has any evidence against him.
PM Abbasi said that Lahore High Court (LHC)’s decision to release Saeed was justified because there were no charges against him and the decision did not violate any law. He further said that India should pursue a case against him on an international forum if it has any proof against him.
PM Abbasi also rejected India’s statement about having already provided evidence against JuD chief.
“India never provided any evidence against Saeed,” he said.
Afghan govt and Taliban should hold peace talks
PM Abbasi said that US’ decision of sending more troops to Afghanistan is a plan bound to fail and it would be much better for the region if the Afghan government and Taliban agreed to peace talks. He added that Pakistan had already assured of its assistance in that regard and that things were complicated on Afghanistan’s side because Pakistan had already tried for peace talks twice but each time the plan was sabotaged.
Addressing United States’ accusations of Pakistani being a safe haven for terrorists, PM Abbasi said that the terrorist attacks are originating from Afghanistan. He also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the eradication of terrorism and said that if the country found terrorists including those of Haqqani network within its borders, it would take action against the terrorists. He said that it was not appropriate for the US and Afghanistan to take a tough stance against Pakistan given that Pakistan has always been on the front lines of the war on terror.
He further said that Pakistan has already asked US to share intelligence reports regarding Haqqani network so that action could be taken against them.
