United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson hinted towards the perception that Pakistan may lose command over its own territory if it does not bring an end to the growing impact and stature of military organisations operating inside the country.
Tillerson was speaking at the Atlantic Council on Tuesday where he said “I understand this is a relationship that has emerged probably for, in their view, good reason a decade ago but now that relationship has to be altered because if they are not careful Pakistan is going to lose control of their own country,” hinting towards Pakistan losing control over its own territory in the coming future.
On Thursday, Pakistan’s foreign office struck down the US secretary of state’s views regarding the situation in the country by issuing a statement that read “we do not agree with the comments and perception of the US secretary of state” and stressed that Pakistan has conducted several large-scale operations against militants and terrorists all across the country and achieved laudable success over the course of time”
The statement also read “These operations are being carried out in our own national interest and Pakistan is determined to rid it’s soil of the scourge of terrorism and extremism.”
Islamabad has asked the US repeatedly to share any Intel or information regarding terrorist hideouts and havens with the civil-military leadership of the country while ruling out the idea of a US-Pak joint operation on Pakistani soil.
