The deadline for registration of votes in electoral rolls was on Tuesday extended till April 30.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) stated that the date was extended keeping in view a large number of requests received for the purpose. It urged the public to visit display centres or the District Election Commission office to get their votes registered or have their details corrected.
Registration forms can also be downloaded from the ECP website.
The term of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz led government will end on May 31, after which a caretaker setup will oversee the next general elections sometime at the end of July. Voters can now also check their registration status and details through an SMS service. They can send their CNIC numbers to 8300 to get details regarding registration status, name of the electoral area, block code and serial number.
All Pakistani citizens above 18 years of age are eligible to register as voters.
The preliminary electoral rolls have names of 104 million voters, including 59,740,095 in Punjab, 22,066,558 in Sindh, 15,075,616 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 4,194,311 in Balochistan, 2,460,804 in Fata and 730,197 in Islamabad. As many as 8.1 million of these voters were added during the last five years.
