Punjab faces growing danger as floodwaters from rivers Chenab and Ravi continue to rise. Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia warned that both rivers could cause more destruction in the coming days. Water levels remain dangerously high, especially at critical points like Head Marala, Trimmu, and Head Muhammad Wala. Authorities are considering breaching embankments to reduce pressure.
During a press briefing in Lahore, Kathia stated that Trimmu is expected to see a massive flow of 830,000 cusecs by tomorrow morning. This water will travel through Kabirwala and merge with the Chenab. At Head Muhammad Wala, the flow may reach 750,000 to 800,000 cusecs, possibly forcing officials to create a breach. The flood will continue towards Sher Shah Bridge, where monitoring is ongoing.
At Ali Pur, the Panjnad headworks may receive 800,000 cusecs on September 4. A bigger wave of 900,000 cusecs is likely to reach Muzaffargarh the same day. Meanwhile, at Bloki on Ravi, the flood has peaked around 220,000 cusecs and may soon decrease. However, risk remains high across southern Punjab, especially near key bridges and low-lying towns.
Kathia praised the joint efforts of Rescue 1122 and Pakistan Army. He said Punjab is currently witnessing the largest rescue operation in its history. Over 22 villages near Sutlej have been evacuated, and rescue work is active in all flood-hit areas. He emphasized that no delay has occurred, and all possible measures are being taken to protect lives and infrastructure.
The PDMA chief also confirmed that Ravi and Chenab remain major threats. Floodwaters are now moving toward Head Sulemanki. Authorities are making real-time decisions to protect headworks, barrages, and bridges. Residents in vulnerable zones are urged to remain alert and follow official guidance. The situation remains critical as rivers continue to swell.
